BPSDB has moved...

So BPSDB has moved, and somewhat transmogrified. It used to be an aggregator of blog articles attacking pseudo-science, called, in full, 'Blogging Pseudo-Scientific Douche Bags'. The old site had gone quiet, and nobody could get hold of the administrator, and so it's been shifted over to Lay Science. The rescue job is welcome - although the old BPSDB is still 'there' the new version is actively managed. But along the way it became the rather more respectable and well-mannered 'Blogging on Pseudo-Science Database'. Sigh.

(I remember when the old 'Digital Research' software company dropped what I'd thought of as the coolest bit of their original name. Who's both old and geeky enough to remember what it was? That, BTW, doesn't mean who's young and/or non-geeky but knows how to use a search engine.)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Digital Research, Inc. (aka DR or DRI; originally Intergalactic Digital Research)

Yup, that's it. Did you know it, or look it up?

(I remember them as IDR from CP/M days. Was even a DR-DOS user for a while.)

I'm not old enough, I just know random geek trivia. I did google it to see what I'd find, hence the wikipedia quote.

Well it's hosted on a British blog now (well hosted in Germany, but meh), so it's a bit more reserved - plus, we don't know what a douche-bag is.

More seriously, many of the original member bloggers walked away as the projected rotted over recent months. I've been working my arse off trying to entice them back on board, and one of the things that kept coming up was the issue of the name. Some people, like the guys at Holford Watch, run blogs that are magnets for legal action, and were understandably nervous about inciting any more trouble than they already do.

Ultimately, I think what really matters is that as many bloggers are on board as possible, and that the posts are as good as they were before.

And speaking of good quality posts, would you like to come on board?

Oh yes - I tried to sign up on the old site - hadn't noticed that it hadn't taken.

And I do take your point about the name not being everyone's cup of tea...
